Kyoto Accommodation - Business Hotels

The ones near JR Kyoto Station are:

Centnovum Hotel - looks really nice and modern. Three mins walk from Kyoto Station's Hachijo-guchi. Advanced notice required for the limited non-smoking rooms.

Hmm, on the Japanese page, they list special Internet rates (not on the English page).
Single ¥8,500-¥9,500 ~normal ¥10,972 (S$138).
Twin ¥16,000-¥18,000 ~ normal -¥19,635 yen (S$248).
Triple ¥19,500-¥22,500
Ooh check out the luxury twin rooms (34.5sqm) going for ¥31,850 (S$400)! This could give the Granvia a run for its money! A moderate twin room goes for slightly less. Strangely, this hotel is not listed on many reservations sites.

Just 2 mins away from JR Kyoto Station, this is a four-star equivalent hotel for business and leisure travellers. Their internet specials (in Japanese only) - seem really good but not sure if these will still be valid come autumn.
The 23sqm standard twin room ¥5,000 per pax (S$65 or $130 for two).
The 30sqm twin room + extra bed = ¥4,500 yen per pax (S$59 or $177 for three).
Single room ¥7,500 (S$97).
All without breakfast (heck, plenty of eateries around!)
This 3-star hotel got raving reviews from travelers (4/5 from 81 reviewers), mostly for its location (2 mins from Kyoto Station). Rooms & bathrooms are small but clean with all necessary facilities. Furniture may be a bit old. Double rooms about ¥13,410 yen (S$173), singles ¥8,734 yen (S$113).

Hotel Station Kyoto West
Just 3 mins walk from Kyoto Station, this is a fairly new hotel (built in 2004). Has Western and Japanese style rooms from ¥10,000 yen (S$126) upwards (no upper ceiling mentioned, yikes). Photos & more details from Rakuten

Other hotels near the JR Kyoto Station: Kyoto Plaza Hotel, Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto - which got mentioned in Frommer's, Kyoto Tower Annex. Oh, Kyoto Tower Hotel chain owns Dai Ni, Annex too. Check out JapanHotels.net list as well.

Other areas:
Palace Side Hotel ranked third in Tripadvisor out of 78 Kyoto Hotels!! (most rave about its fantastic value). A totally smoke-free hotel located right next to the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Why is smoke-free such a big deal? Cos in most business hotels, even when you request for a non-smoking room, you'll often get a smoky room anyway. Single ¥5,040, double ¥6,825, triple ¥10,500 yen.
