Kyoto Accommodation - Gion/Higashiyama

Gion Shinmonso
Modern ryokan in centre of Gion, near Shirakawa river. Good reviews on its location. Close to stations and bus stops stations. You may see a geisha walking along the stone-paved roads outside. Rooms ensuite with toilet (some with private bath). Triple room without meals - ¥15,750 (S$199 or $66 each) on-season or ¥18,900 (S$238 or S$79 each) special period, no idea when.

Gojo Guesthouse

I like this place! Very friendly atmosphere. Hosts speak good English and take care of you as though you are family. Great value for money - large private room (triple-sharing) only ¥9,000 yen (S$113 or $38 each)!!! Good location near Kiyomizudera and Gion, right near a bus stop and 5mins walk from Keihan Gojo station. Even has quaint little cafe. Western-style toilet and shower. Photos from Flickr and Tripadvisor. No curfews! Look, they actually carry photo comments from guests on their website, from 2003-2007!

Motonago Ryokan - Excellent mid-range traditional ryokan in a hundred-year old house, with superb cuisine. Just step out the door for lovely evening strolls in the Higashiyama district. Some rooms have private baths. Triple stay ranges from ¥28,350 (low season) to ¥34,650 (high season) on weekdays. I think breakfast and dinner is separate. Easy 10-min walk east from Shijo station or 10-min cab ride from Kyoto Station. Photos from Flickr.
