South - Kyoto Station & below, Shijidori

Hmm, not much here but Kyoto Station itself is brimming with eateries. There is:
* "Eat Paradise" in the station's Isetan department store (11F): Tsukiji Sushi Sei (pic on right, set menus from 2100 yen) and Ten-Ichi are both here, along with other restaurants specialising in Kyoto cuisines.
* Huge-ass ramen place Kyoto Ramen Koji ("Kyoto Ramen Alley")featuring different types/regionalities
* The Cube's eleventh-floor restaurant mall (adjoining Eat Paradise)
* Porta underground shopping mall

Bento.com recommends these Kyoto Station picks.
